Board of Health Subcommittee Explores Kratom Regulations Pending State Action

BURLINGTON — Board of Health Subcommittee discusses kratom options, defers decision. Chairperson Gayle DaMore and Board Member Orysia Hanushevsky, with Director of Public Health Susan Lumenello present, reviewed model regulations that would ban kratom and synthetically derived cannabinoids including delta-8 and delta-10. The subcommittee also considered alternatives allowing sales to those 21 and older, potentially at the four Adult Only Retail locations currently permitted in Burlington under tobacco regulations.
After the discussion, the group committed to gathering information about kratom regulations in Wilmington and Lexington, effective compliance-check methods, and whether any Massachusetts kratom regulations allow age-restricted sales rather than complete bans, before reconvening on June 25, 2026.
