Burlington advances constables and town administrator charter changes

Burlington approves constables charter amendment and town administrator annual review requirement. The Government Review Committee voted 11-0 to maintain the elected constable position and specify that constable terms should not be co-terminus in the town charter. In a separate unanimous vote, the committee approved language requiring the Select Board to conduct an annual review of the Town Administrator.
Patrick Lawlor, Assistant Town Administrator, presented an overview of the constable role, noting the town is required under state law to have at least two constables whose primary function is serving legal documents.
