Burlington Recreation Commission Adopts Master Plan, Advances $250,000 in Warrant Articles

BURLINGTON — January 27, 2024 — Burlington's Recreation Commission accepted a completed Outdoor Facilities Master Plan and approved $250,000 in warrant articles at its January 27 meeting. Consultants from Weston & Sampson presented the plan, built from visits to 17 sites and two rounds of public surveys, which found Burlington meets or exceeds peer municipalities in nearly all recreation benchmarks but identified recurring needs for accessible pathways, splash pads, cricket fields, and teen programming. The commission unanimously approved a $2,309,089 FY 2026 budget — a 3 percent increase — then voted to advance a $200,000 athletic field improvement warrant article and a new $50,000 article for fencing, walkway, and tree work, both headed to town meeting. The board also voted to spend up to $2,500 from the revolving account to send Assistant Director Kelly Lehman to the Municipal Special Event Summit in Savannah, Georgia, in February. The department separately confirmed it has finalized a design contract with Weston & Sampson for Overlook Park, with a final design expected by summer.
