Burlington Recreation Commission Clears Path for Marshall Simons Field Renovation

BURLINGTON — October 20, 2025 — Burlington Recreation Commission hears bench safety complaint, advances Marshall Simons field plan. Town Meeting Member Bob Young of Precinct 3 told the commission Monday that a deteriorating bench outside the Council on Aging offices at 61 Center Street had gone unrepaired for 95 days since his July 13 email to Director Brendan Egan, warning that someone could be hurt; Egan responded that a donated recycled-plastic bench will replace it within roughly 10 weeks, with a concrete pad poured in the next one to two weeks. A commissioner reported the School Committee has approved the Marshall Simons field layout — a full lacrosse and soccer field, accessible amenities, new lighting and scoreboards — expected to break ground March or April if the Conservation Commission approves the Notice of Intent, with the Simons and Brushfield renovations to proceed in sequence so neither field goes offline simultaneously. The commission voted 3-0-1 to approve September 29 minutes, then unanimously entered executive session to discuss litigation strategy and non-union personnel negotiations.
