Charter language vote advances with two opposed

Government Review Committee · Meeting of February 10, 2026

Burlington Government Review Committee advances charter language framework on town administrator authority. The committee voted seven to two on February 10 to provisionally approve Article 3, Section 3-4(1) language governing the town administrator's supervising authority, presented by Anthony Wilson and Patricia Lloyd of the Collins Center. Discussion of Article 3, Section 3-4(3), covering HR authority, was deferred pending clarifications.

Chair Betsey Hughes expressed concern the HR language was too general and needed specificity before further discussion. The committee also learned former member Myrna Saltman has resigned; Chair Hughes solicited replacements ideally from outside existing Town Meeting service.
