Government Review Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Burlington Government Review Committee approved charter revisions governing the town administrator, voting 8-0 to replace Section 4-4 with language requiring at least four Select Board members to remove the administrator in accordance with their employment contract. Town Counsel Lisa Meade requested the change, citing limits on the board's ability to address malfeasance under the original language. The committee also adopted Meade's recommendation to designate the town administrator as chief procurement officer under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 30B, with full purchasing authority for all town departments.

Chair Betsey Hughes reported that the Select Board will brief and vote on the revised charter in December, with three public meetings scheduled October 13-15 and the warrant article deadline October 27.
