Public Arts Committee advances spring exhibits and mural plans
Public Arts Committee · Meeting of April 8, 2026
BURLINGTON — Public Arts Committee plans "I <3 Art" library exhibit and community mural. George Ratkevich and Mike Wick updated the committee on the May 16-17 exhibit at the library; student artist Afsa Khalifa will prep the community mural wall during April vacation, with painting to begin in late May or early June. Barbara L'Heureux and Jon Sachs reported that an online fundraising campaign has raised $1,600, and L'Heureux shared discussions with Town Administration about incorporating the Public Arts Committee into the Town Budget for possible presentation at September Town Meeting.
Bob Buckley stressed that businesses and realtors recognize the value of outdoor art, which should be central to the budget pitch. The committee will reconvene April 15 to finalize 2026 sculpture installation selections after reviewing remaining student feedback.
