Burlington Ways and Means approves four operating budgets totaling $16.7 million. The committee unanimously backed Public Works at $12,701,184, a 4.11 percent increase reflecting contractual salary bumps, employee retirements, and expanded snow removal and overtime; Trash Removal at $3,664,662, up 7.06 percent due to waste removal contract increases; Streetlights at $356,375, down 1.14 percent and marking the final year of the LED conversion loan program; and the DEP Drinking Water Assessment at $15,000. Committee member Chris Campbell raised concerns about vague budgetary line items labeled miscellaneous or other, requesting greater specificity in future presentations.
