Ways and Means Committee approves $21.6M in public safety budgets

BURLINGTON — Ways and Means Committee approves $21.6M in public safety operating budgets and capital articles. Police Chief Thomas Browne presented an $11,114,087 budget up 2.42% due to salary contracts and 6% overtime growth, approved 15-0-0. Fire Chief James Browne's $10,497,535 budget rose 1.69% on salary steps and overtime, also approved 15-0-0.
The committee unanimously approved $94,000 for a fire command vehicle, $181,000 for cardiac monitors, and $100,000 for public building security upgrades. The Shawsheen Technical School operating budget was tabled 13-0-0 over financial recordkeeping concerns, though a $165,737 feasibility study warrant article passed 12-1-0.
