Burlington Ways and Means approves FY27 DPW budget with sharp utility increases. The subcommittee voted 2-0 to advance the Department of Public Works budget as natural gas costs jumped 47 percent starting in April and electric rates climbed 31 percent. DPW Director Brian White reported that heavy snowstorms have already required $800,000 in Select Board authorization for Highway Division costs, with additional funds potentially needed before season's end.
The subcommittee also unanimously approved trash removal at $3,664,662, a 7.06 percent increase; street lights at $356,375, declining 1.14 percent as the 15-year streetlight replacement loan reaches its final year; and a $15,000 state-required drinking water assessment. New facilities management software will track maintenance across town properties.
