Wellness Committee reviews grade 3-5 health standards alignment

School Committee · Meeting of February 12, 2026

Burlington School Wellness Advisory Committee advances alignment of 1999 health standards with 2023 Massachusetts frameworks. The committee reviewed the grade 3-5 crosswalk, with most standards receiving consensus recommendations for adoption; however, two substance-use standards on distinguishing legal and illegal drugs and demonstrating refusal skills failed to reach consensus, with members requesting more information. Amy Doughty chaired the meeting, attended by 19 members.

The committee will continue work on the grade 6-8 standards at its March 26 meeting and will address questions about the opt-out process and curriculum-writing procedures.
