Burlington's Charter Review Committee votes 7-2 to keep ballot rules unchanged, sets January Town Meeting timeline. Meeting for more than three hours, the committee worked through its draft charter article by article with drafting attorney Pat, rejecting a proposal from member Corey to flag current appointed Town Meeting members on nomination papers after member Nikki warned it would favor incumbents. "I think it's important that people should know when they vote that...this person actually was already appointed by a group of their peers to represent," Corey said.
The panel separately voted unanimously to cut, from one year to six months, how long an appointed board member can miss meetings before removal. Chair Jim said the committee has held roughly 75 meetings since June 2025 and plans a Select Board vote in November ahead of a Town Meeting vote in January.
