Burlington Recreation Commission Approves $42,500 in Revolving Fund Spending, Awards Basketball Court Contract

BURLINGTON — August 18, 2025 — Burlington Recreation Commission voted 5-0 on six spending items totaling more than $157,000 at its August 18 meeting. The commission awarded a $114,507 contract to Vermont Recreational Surfacing and Fencing Incorporated for a basketball court renovation at Rahanas Park — under the $150,000 town meeting appropriation — and approved three separate $10,000 allocations from the department's revolving account for gym floor refinishing, sand volleyball court renovation at Rahanas Park, and completion of the disc golf course at Simons Park. The commission also approved $2,500 to send Recreation Director Brendan Egan to the National Recreation and Park Association conference in Orlando in September and green-lit temporary lighting at Mary Cummings Park for youth sports. In a subcommittee report, a member announced that the Marshall Simons Field project has a finalized schematic design featuring two turf fields, a walking track, lighting, and accessible seating, with groundbreaking targeted for April or May 2026 and a subcommittee vote on remaining design details scheduled for September 12.
