Burlington Recreation Commission Approves Two Hires, Accepts $100,000 Simons Park Trust Disbursement

BURLINGTON — April 27, 2026 — Burlington Recreation Commission unanimously accepts $100,000 Simons Park trust fund and fills two maintenance positions. The commission voted 5-0 Monday to accept the 2027 disbursement from the Will of Marshall Simons trust for programs and events at Simons Park, pending two Town Meeting votes in May and September before funds are released. In separate 5-0 votes, the commission appointed Mark Woods as Maintenance Craftsman Mechanic effective May 4 and Derrick Forty to a second open craftsman position effective May 11; both fill vacancies created by an earlier promotion. The commission also voted 4-0 to allow the Burlington Baseball and Softball Association to hang a sign at the Simons Park snack shack reading "Corbett's Kitchen" for six weeks this season, honoring former BBSA President Chris Corbett, who led the association for 17 years before stepping down due to illness in 2021. Director of Parks and Recreation Brendan Regan reported that fields opened April 9 — earlier than expected — and that the Overlook Park construction project remains on track for an estimated July completion, with electrical trenching and playground installation still ahead.
