Burlington School Committee launched a new free early college program and honored two students for shaping national AI policy. Early college coordinator Kelly said the program, offered through Middlesex Community College with an articulation path to UMass Lowell, lets Burlington High School students earn up to 12 free college credits while still enrolled. Director Shireen Terrell said the district is also pursuing new Chapter 74 career-technical pathways worth roughly $50,000 in state funding each.
State Rep. Kenneth Gordon presented House citations to juniors Shayla Ruiz and Kanika Agarwala for representing Massachusetts at the national "Day of AI" student summit, saying "AI is so prominent that your generation is going to use AI like generations before you used electricity." The committee also voted 5-0 to raise the substitute cafeteria worker rate from $16 to $19 an hour, effective September 23.
