BURLINGTON — The Fox Hill School Building Committee approved nearly $6 million in construction invoices and reopened a bitter fight over the elementary school's playground vendor. The committee cleared a $5,885,930.33 CTA payment application, an $88,908.20 Doran Whittier invoice, and a roughly $17,234 change order, all by lopsided roll-call votes. But members spent close to an hour on a 2025 vote that picked Landscape Structures over Childscapes as the permanent playground vendor, after member Christine Monaco disclosed a friendship with a Childscapes executive's family.
"I asked my own personal attorney over a year ago if that was an issue, and I was assured that it was not," Monaco said, calling the conflict claims political. Another member countered that reopening a vendor deal after a two-year price hold "sets a terrible precedent for the town." Martha Simon noted Monaco actually voted for the temporary Childscapes playground and was simply absent, not opposed, for the original vote. No letter of award to Landscape Structures could be found.
