Burlington Town Meeting approved most of its fiscal 2027 budget but forced Shawsheen Valley Technical High School back to the drawing board. Members voted to cut the regional school's assessment by a symbolic $1,000, to $3,905,349, after Ways and Means members Doug Davison and Ed Parsons detailed accounting lapses, including $1.4 million in unreconciled accounts. "We remain concerned until the efforts are complete," Parsons said.
The move gives Shawsheen 30 days to submit a corrected budget. Sarah Walensky, of Precinct 5, questioned whether that was enough time. Separately, a motion by Joanne Fustace to postpone a vote on the school department's roughly $70 million operating budget failed, and the budget passed despite criticism of uniform, technology and conference spending.
The town also approved $43,243,509 in uncontested department budgets and a $16,835,321 special education budget.
