Burlington Building Committee Votes to Continue, Will Reapply to MSBA for High School

BURLINGTON — December 11, 2025 — Burlington votes to keep its high school building committee alive after debt exclusion defeat. Meeting jointly as the High School Building Committee and School Committee on December 11, Chair Katherine Bond acknowledged the failed debt exclusion vote and committed to reapplying to the Massachusetts School Building Authority, with the Statement of Interest window expected to open in January and close in the second week of April 2026. School Committee members Christine Monaco, Meghan Nawoichik, and Bond voted 3-0 to continue the committee with its current membership and a new charge, welcoming critics of the prior process to join. The panel also approved a final $18,000 invoice from owner's project manager Dore & Whittier, closing out the feasibility study with $28,362 in unspent funds returning to the town. Remote participant Lisa McGonigal pressed school officials on fire safety at the unsprinklered building, citing the feasibility study's findings on aging natural gas infrastructure and warning of potential liability.
