Burlington High School Building Committee Cuts Options to Two, Bars Stadium From Building Footprint

BURLINGTON — March 13, 2025 — Burlington High School Building Committee votes down four design options, leaving two finalists. The combined School Committee and Building Committee meeting on March 13 eliminated options AR2, NC1, NC4, and the possibility of a varsity football stadium between the existing buildings through a series of unanimous 17-0 votes, leaving addition-renovation option AR8 at $334 million and standalone new-construction option NC5 at $346 million as the only paths forward. The committee separately approved a commitment of up to $30,000 for a wetlands delineation survey of the practice field, which project manager Terry of Dorn Whittier said must be completed before the committee can select a single preferred option at its April 10 meeting. Teacher and Burlington resident Amanda Lee told the committee "we desperately need a new building," while abutter Jason Fregoso of 29 Sunset Drive argued AR8 is "the most cost effective" option and the one most likely to win a debt exclusion vote. A 16-0-1 vote authorized a construction manager at-risk subcommittee, with School Committee members Jeremy Brooks, Bob Kuna, and a member identified as Eric appointed to evaluate proposals.
