Select Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Burlington's Select Board previewed a charter draft that would create the town's first recall process for elected officials. Government Review Committee chair Betsy Hughes said the panel, working with the Collins Center for Public Management at UMass Boston, found 80 percent survey support for recall, requiring signatures from 2 percent of voters to file an affidavit and 20 percent, about 3,800 voters, to force a townwide election. The board will vote on a recommendation in December ahead of January town meeting.
Separately, the board continued a Cormier Road speed-table hearing to October 19 after residents, including one who described a racially motivated road-rage incident, demanded faster traffic calming; the $50,000 project is blocked for up to five years by a paving moratorium. The board also approved a $20,000 sale of 0 Polk Street and backed a cell tower lease generating over $73,000 annually.
