Select Board · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Burlington's Select Board learned a court twice rejected the town's bid to inspect the ICE detention facility on District Avenue. Sarah Cawley called the latest denial "very, very frustrating," saying detainees face "inadequate food, sleeping arrangements, air, sunlight and access to lawyers." A volunteer told the board the share of detainees released after 9 p.m. without money or a ride rose from 12 percent in July to 32 percent in early August. The board also heard from Sergeant Matt Kramer on e-bike safety, unanimously appointed Mike Murphy and Patrick Duran to lead the DPW's highway division after the retirements of Kevin Keene and Tommy Harrington, approved a new license for Activate Games at 90 Middlesex Turnpike, and voted 4-1 to approve the 16-article warrant for a September 28 special town meeting.
