Select Board · Meeting of July 13, 2026

Burlington's Select Board approved a Tavern in the Square renovation on a 2-1 vote after the restaurant altered its bar without prior board approval. Member Nicholas Priest cast the lone no vote, saying the sequence put "the cart before the horse," while Chairman James Tigges and Member Joseph Morandi cited the restaurant's roughly 150 employees in voting yes. CEO Stephen D'Souza called the lapse an oversight after 21 years in business.

Separately, the board locked in a two-year municipal aggregation electricity rate of 15.646 cents per kilowatt-hour, an 18 percent increase but still about 10 percent below Eversource's basic rate, and approved three personnel appointments, a Pokeworks general license, and $29,499.51 in year-end account transfers. The Government Review Committee reported 1,151 survey responses, 11 percent of households, as it finalizes a new town charter ahead of a September board review.
