Burlington Recreation Commission Votes 4-0 to Appoint New Maintenance Craftsman

BURLINGTON — March 9, 2026 — Burlington Recreation Commission approves new hire and learns department will receive four statewide awards. The commission voted 4-0 at its March 9 meeting to appoint Joshua Walsh as maintenance craftsman, effective March 23, 2026, after an earlier candidate declined the position; a second craftsman vacancy remains open. Recreation Director Brendan announced that four Burlington Parks and Recreation staff members will be recognized at the Massachusetts Recreation and Park Association Conference on March 24 in Springfield: Assistant Director Kelly Lehman receives the Community Professional of the Year Award, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Emma Andrews receives the Therapeutic Recreation Award, intern Eva Burbage is named MRPA Outstanding Student, and the department as a whole receives a Community Impact Award for its I Can Bike Program. Assistant Director Lehman reported that sewer connection work at Overlook Park began the day of the meeting at a contracted cost of $48,416.68, with roughly $60,000 remaining in the project's contingency fund. Bids for the $250,000 state-funded Town Common Sidewalk Project are due to open March 12, with a completion deadline of end of May.
