Burlington Select Board Appoints Four Police Officers Amid Record-Low Applicant Numbers

BURLINGTON — September 8, 2025 — Burlington Select Board unanimously approves four police officers and two other appointments in busy Monday session. The board voted 5-0 on all three appointment items, confirming Kenneth Sater, Andrew Lally, Taylor Gerard, and Matthew Qualey as Burlington Police officers with an effective date of October 14, 2025, when academy training begins in Haverhill. Police Chief Connery noted the department drew fewer than 35 applicants for the positions, the lowest figure since leaving civil service in 2014. The board also approved Brunelda Lingozy as an accounting specialist in the treasurer-collector's office effective September 9 and granted a common victualler's license to Tate Bakery and Cafe, opening September 22 at 101 Middlesex Turnpike with 154 seats. The board previewed two September Town Meeting warrant articles, including a proposed fire department lift-assist fee that would bill assisted living facilities for non-emergency calls — a service the department performed 28 times in July and August alone.
