Burlington Select Board unanimously backs brick design for new police station

BURLINGTON — May 19, 2025 — Burlington Select Board advances police station design and launches government review committee with two 5-0 votes. The board unanimously endorsed Brick Option 2 — a wrap-around brick water table design — as the baseline exterior for the new police station, with a Planning Board site plan review public hearing scheduled for June 5 that could require multiple sessions. Board member Joseph Morandi raised questions about funding for the brick option and final design authority, and was told the Select Board owns the building but the design must conform to Town Center Overlay requirements. On governance, the board appointed nine core members — Craig Foster, Russell Minor, Corey Everett, Bill Byer, Carl Foss, Steven Mahoney, Jessica Sutherland, Betsy Hughes, and Nikki Cadillac — plus alternates Jack Kelly and Myrna Saltman to a Government Review Committee expected to operate for 12 to 18 months with facilitation from the UMass Boston Collins Center. "The Collins Center is going to be engaged in this process the whole way through," Chair Michael Espejo said, emphasizing the committee's independence so its eventual recommendations carry weight before Town Meeting.
