Government Review Committee Defers Town Administrator Title Decision

Government Review Committee · Meeting of May 12, 2026

Burlington Government Review Committee defers administrator title decision pending board feedback. The committee, led by Chair Betsey Hughes, discussed whether renaming Town Administrator to Town Manager after the Select Board raised the question; 71 percent of surrounding municipalities use Town Manager while 29 percent use Town Administrator. Current Town Administrator John Danizio noted applicants may perceive Town Manager as carrying greater authority and responsibility, but committee members determined organizational changes could create unnecessary complications.

Instead, the committee will defer a decision until gathering input from boards and results from an ongoing resident survey that has received 641 responses as of May 11, meeting approximately 80 percent of its three percent participation goal.
