Select Board · Meeting of May 4, 2026

BURLINGTON — The Burlington Select Board voted 5-0 to promote Captain Daniel Hanafin to deputy police chief and cut Fourth of July parade funding from a requested $80,000 to $34,000. Town Administrator John Danizio appointed Hanafin after Police Chief Browne recommended him to replace the retired Deputy Chief Kirshner. The parade vote passed 3-0-2, with members Nicholas Priest and Sarah Cawley abstaining; Cawley said she would "hesitate to, at this point, vote in favor of it... without any information other than the number." The board postponed a $100,000 Historical Commission request for a West School storage shed over unresolved design and accessibility questions, with Priest warning the town risked "pouring money into something" before getting answers.

The board also approved a six-month, $6,100-a-month Blanchard Road cell tower lease extension and a finalized electronic sign policy.
